Branding is much deeper than a logo or a pretty design. While the logo might be the face customers associate with a brand, it's not the actual brand itself.
And, the same can be said for pretty design... pretty design doesn't always equate to great branding (Amazon is one of the strongest brands in existence today and their website is hideous).
At its core, a brand can be summed up as follows... it's what people say about you when you're not in the room.
